what
is barkley house?
The Barkley House project at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Missouri will provide temporary lodging for animal patients and their families.
Barkley House will
be a guest house at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for animal
patients and their families. Entirely funded through private donations,
Barkley House will be a place where pets undergoing long-term treatment
and their owners can enjoy compassion, care, and camaraderie.
For those traveling
long distances to the teaching hospital for specialized services, Barkley
House will provide a home-like environment. For those whose pets require
on-going treatment, such as daily radiation or chemotherapy, Barkley House
will provide temporary lodging close to the Teaching Hospital.
It is hoped that Barkley
House will serve as an example and inspiration for the development of
similar facilities to help companion animal patients and their caregivers
at other veterinary referral centers.
The facility will
provide a unique atmosphere in which veterinary students will enhance
their client communication skills and ensure professional and compassionate
veterinary care.
